Turning dead body’s ashes into diamonds…..There’s gonna more blood diamonds

Some people want a pretty lie instead of the ugly truth. I get it, for a lot of years I accepted things that were explained to me as a kid. I trusted the sources, whether they were family members telling me what they were taught as children. Teachers whose job it was to cram the material down your throat and absorb the humdrum so you could pass a test or gather research for a paper that was due. I really didn’t learn the underlining truth until after I left school and felt the need to answer some questions that didn’t make sense to me.

Adam and Eve Dilemma

In the bible the universe is only about 6,000 years old. I don’t know why, but this has been the subject of debate for a long time. I believe in science and I believe the Earth is over 3 billion years old and that mankind has only been around for a couple hundred years. This notion as well as the big bang theory was up for debate and argued by Bill Nye the Science Guy and Ken Ham, whose perspective was directly for the idea of creationism.

black Adam and Eve

Another piece of scientific evidence that can be used to debunk the creation of man came from a single woman and man was found in a man’s DNA that ties his lineage back over 300,000 years ago. I found an article in The MadMan Chronicles and it details that a man’sDNA from South Carolina has Y chromosomes that predates the earliest homo sapiens fossils. Discovery News and Science Direct found the dilemma when the volunteer’s DNA sample could not be verified by during a National Geographic Genographic Project. The base pairs to choose from were over 240,000. When the search led to a Mbo connection the project came to a conclusion the idea of a single man and woman creating the human race based on that the Y chromosome was part of a family tree.

Who is the real face of Jesus?

Jesus              Jesus is black                Black Jesus

If you saw your face as the reflected  image and embodiment of Jesus Christ, how much closer to omnipotence would this make you feel? Also, subconsciously how would you look your race? Would it make them godlike as well? These are the questions we need to ask ourselves when we look as pictures of the Lord and Savior. Up and until about 31 BC Jesus was worshipped in this original form, shape and sin complexion, which was not the blue eyes and white skin known today. The tribe of Judah was known to the Hebrews and a dark skin nation, which Jesus was known to have come from. Proof of this has been found on wall carvings in the catacombs of Rome, where a painting of Jesus who was beardless, dark-skinned with short hair was shown. Often his likeness could be found on paintings, carvings and scultpures.

Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo were in competition to win the approval of the King, Pope Alexander VI. Christianity was taken over by Europe at this time and the King had every image of the black Jesus destroyed and the Vatican was remade. Still the King needed a symbol that would lead the countries into the new world of the faith. Leonardo, who knew this and also knew the Pope loved his son Cesare Borgia. Leonardo created a painting of Cesare passed off as Jesus Christ and therefore created the falsehood story that a long-haired, blue-eyed European could somehow been the creator of the Christian faith. Cesare himself had a controversial past, he had a sexual relationship with his sister, and was also blamed for the murder of his own brother Giovanni Juan Borgia. Cesare Borgia was also a mass murderer and homosexual. My skin upon is black upon me.(Job 30:30)

The King James Version

King James Version

What can I say about this one. Oh, I know King James is not who he seems to be. Honestly, I was probably the most surprised when I did the research on him than anyone else on this blog. King James of Scotland/England I wanted to make his own version of the bible. One that was denied to the common people unlike the Geneve Bible that was for everyone’s use. The KJB was for government publication solely because of the “divine right of Kings” taught to him by his mother Mary Stuart aka Bloody Mary. King James was notably to the product of adultery since Mary Stuart had an affair behind her husband’s back, King Henry. David Rizzio an Italian secretary was King James father by birth. He was executed by King Henry after he learned of the affair.

Mary had many affairs behind her husbands back and often tried to kill him as well. She tried to kill him in a gunpowder explosion, but when he survived, he was mysteriously suffocated that same night. Mary was to blame for her husband’s death and put death herself by Elizabeth I of England who was her cousin. Charming family right!!!!! Before her death, Mary got the name Bloody Mary because during her reign she executed another cousin Lady Jane Grey to avoid any power struggle between them. She executed hundreds of protestant leaders with the intent to turn the church back into Roman Catholicism. To her being a protestant was a “crime” punishable only by death.

Remember, that was the mother who was a psychopath murdering, adultrist. Her son was not far behind. King James authorized the publication and production for the King James Version of the Bible, which was translated from Greek and Hebrew to English. While he didn’t hover over the authors of the new bible he did, however, provide rules they had to follow during the translation.

1.      The ordinary Bible read in the church, commonly called the Bishop’s Bible to be followed and as little altered as the truth of the original will permit.

2.      Or, since the common people preferred the Geneva Bible to the existing government publication, let’s see if we can slip a superseding government publication onto their bookshelves, altered as little as possible.

3.      The old Ecclesiastical words to be kept, viz. the word “church” not to be translated “congregation,” etc.

4.      That is, if a word should be translated a certain way, let’s deliberately mistranslated it to make the people think God still belongs to the Anglican Church — exclusively.

5.      No marginal notes at all to be affixed, but only for the explanation of the Hebrew or Greek words, which cannot without some circumlocution, so briefly and fitly be expressed in the text.

witch trials                                         witch trials again

The part that is more troubling is that King James was in fact a homosexual. It seems odd, the one who authorized the KJB like kissing young boys and men more than women. His conduct was documented in books like James I: The Fool As King and King James-VI of Scotland/I of England. He was nicknamed by the townspeople Queen James to mock his sexual relationships. In his teenage years James had a relationship with Esme’ Stuart, Earl of Lennox, which was not accepted by church leaders who forced Esme’ to flee Scotland. King James also kissed Francis Stewart Hepburn and was known to have a sexual relationship with him as well. King James also had affairs with George Villiers, and called Villiers his wife as well.

Another oddity about James was he enjoyed killing animals and would roll around in their blood for fun. It was rumored that he also practiced bestiality on the animals while they were dying. He would sanction witch trials and enjoyed the torture and killing of women whom he thought practiced witchcraft. When a jury acquitted Barbara Napier for witch craft, King James was so angered by the verdict, he wrote to the court to have the jury sentenced to death. Ironically, they reversed their decision and Barbara Napier was put to death.

The North Berwick witch trials started in 1589 by King James back in Scotland. An estimated 4,000 to 6,000 people were executed during the trials. King James published a book that was meant for defense against witches. Daemonologie  was three books used solely to hunt, capture and kill witches. They also discussed possession, demons, were-wolves, fairies, ghosts and necromancy.

Lady Justice

“With Liberty and Justice for all”, It’s these words that necessitate the constitution that is the embodiment of the American spirit and gives us the right to live freely with the same level of humanity and law. So why does it today we no longer uphold this tradition that has been around for centuries. If you remember the plot of Shawshank Redemption when the main protagonist’s character was set up to go to prison to work in the jail. Picture that same scenario all across the country. It’s seems that the justice system in this country has become one sided and truly works for the fortunate and not less fortunate. If you don’t believe me how many bank CEO’s do you know went to jail for the financial crisis during the recessions beginning.

For every Bernie Madoff, there are hundreds of lower income individuals who fight against a system that entraps them into a cycle of prosecution without enough just cause and receive a sentence before the ink dries that are handwritten by the arresting officer. If you look at the stats since 2007 spending on correctional facilities outweighed public defense, $14 dollars for every $1 dollar spent on public defense. According to the National Association of Criminal Lawyers a public defender on average has 7 minutes in New Orleans to review a case and cities like Atlanta have 59 minutes on average to look over the preliminaries in the case. It boils down to there are not enough public defenders and not enough money to help the poor and unprivileged, so they fall by the waist side and expected to pick themselves up.95% of cases met by public defenders are plead guilty simply because the resources and time simply are there. It’s hard to fight for a defendant when the same systems outspends you 3.5 billion to 300 million in favor of the police and facilities.

If you’re not convinced yet that the deck is stacked think about this. The US is only 5% of the world’s population, but we have 25% of the world’s prison population. 1 in 31 adults have been under some form of correctional control. African Americans have it worse than a lot of other ethnic groups. They make up 1 million out of the 2.3 million incarcerated population. To grasp the incentives prisons get for inmates, correctional facilities receive $70 billion a year and these are the numbers back in 2008. Those numbers have absolutely gone up.

Some socio-economic groups don’t have to worry about jail time as much as others. For individuals like Ethan Couch, who is a 16 year old boy who was given 10 years probation for killing four people and paralyzing one after a joyride gone wrong. He got such a soft sentencing because of  affluenza or believing that this kid is so spoiled and rich he doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong. My question is, doesn’t this make him a borderline psychopath and should be psychoanalyzed. Another case is Robert H. Richards  IV who was convicted of raping his 3 year old girl and sexually abusing his 19 month son at the same time. This was only brought to light since Richards ex wife brought a civil suit against him for the abuse of the son after the case of the daughter got such a light sentence. Oh!!! I forgot to mention Richards did not serve one day in jail, since the judge determined he would not farewell in jail. Truly the justice system has been up for sale for sometime now.

So I’m watching one of my favorite shows on late night tv which is the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and there was a segment done about the civil forfeiture abuse in America. That I’ll explain later in this blog, I also, seen a segment on a segment on Real Time with Bill Maher about the military issuing surplus weapons and tanks to the police in small towns. I thought holy shit!!  America is getting scary, when we live in a society that our police need tanks and military weaponry. It wasn’t until I heard about this rampant wave of police brutality that is caught on video. It seems every week a new video goes viral showing someone of color being beaten and even killed.

So let’s talk numbers first before I make my case here. The Huffington Post posted an article at the beginning of the year that indicated only 1% of police brutality reports undergo an investigation in central jersey. Between 2008 and 2012, citizens “filed hundreds of complaints alleging brutality, bias and civil rights violations by officers in more than seven dozen police departments in Central Jersey,” the report reads. SouWhat happens to the other 99 % of the reports? Glad you ask they either exonerated the officers involved, dismiss the complaints as frivolous, determine they need more evidence to help or just leave the cases open until….

That’s only one section of NJ, what about on a national level? The latest stat according to The National Police Misconduct Statistics date back to 2010 which to me are just anachronous and needs to be updated. Out of 4,861 reported police misconduct that implicated 6,613 sworn law enforcement officers and 6,826 alleged victims according to the website. The cases have either been brushed off the Captain’s desk or underreported. So what to the cops have to say about other cops you ask? Again, glad you ask 61% of serious criminal violations that involve abuse of authority by fellow officers are not reported. Probably, because out of the officers that do report these crimes are given the “cold shoulder” 67% of the time. 52% turn the other way when improper police conduct is happening. Last, 25% have witnessed police harassing individuals on race based scenarios.

It’s been no secret that in the African-American community nationwide, there is a distrust towards law enforcement that is taught and passed down through the generations. From a little kid, I was taught to obey the law and comply, comply, comply. Any resistance toward the police results in savage beatings such as Rodney King or worse death. Cases like Sean Bell and Eric Garner among many others are examples of the abuse of power the police wields over minority groups. According to a black man is killed every 28 hours or another way to look at is in the year 2012, 313 black men were killed alone. Another scary stat is that within the last ten years 5,000 US citizens have been killed. This trumps the amount of soldiers killed on the field during the Iraq war.

What laws are enabling the police to act so tyrannically? One law in particular that sanction the search and seizure of belongings and cash without just cause or due process is the civil forfeiture laws. Throughout the country abuse of these laws have led to complaints in several states from citizens who have had their money, possessions taken and property destroyed. The law is trivial, because it places the blame and the burden of proof on the victim instead of the officer with little retribution. Even though the law has been ruled unconstitutional, it hasn’t stopped NYPD from waking up victims like Gerald Bryan in his Bronx home and seizing $4,800 dollars in cash. Oh yeahThey also tore out light fixtures, punched holes in walls, marauded through his belongings. In most cases, those on the lower socioeconomic rarely finds justice because they can’t afford a lawyer for the civil case and it is the police officer’s word against their own. Even though both in 1972, and 2002 a judge ruled this law unconstitutional, the fear of appearing soft on crime has postponed any measure to revamp the laws.

One cause of police officers becoming overwhelmingly forceful may lay in the recruitment process. It seems more and more ex-military who, not been able to make the transition from the uniform to civilian have found solace and jobs and solace in the increasing need law enforcement. On the surface who could argue that this seems like a natural fit. The brave men and women who served our country should have a role protecting our citizens. The security is only peripherally deep and may have far more underlining issues than results. Some military come home with undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder or brain injuries. Also, there is an issue of handle the use of a firearm. On the battlefield a soldier can shoot their enemy with little hesitation or backlash, we understand it’s war people die in war I get it. In society, though, officers have to show restrain and can’t reach for their gun for every posed threat in front of them. I’m not opposed to the idea, but I don’t want my home a war zone with navy seals patrolling schoo,l parks with hair triggers and self-righteous sense of fortitude that justifies reprehensible acts of malfeasance.

In addition to gaining military philosophy, police departments are given military issued weaponry and vehicles such as the Lenco Bearcat G3. So what happens when congress orders more weapons and tanks than they need? Well, that surplus of ammunition goes to the police of course. At least some of it does, by the way, did you know that the US spends over three times more on the military arms than China our closest second place. Among the artillery that is dispersed are M-16 rifles, grenade launchers, silencers, over 200,000 magazine ammunition, camouflage gear, night-vision equipment  and armored cars and aircraft. See how this can turn into a big quagmire and that’s putting it lightly.

The other problem is the increasing number of times a year that police SWAT teams are sent for routine jobs such as inspection of a liquor license in a nightclub in Louisiana back in 2006. In 2010, the SWAT raided barber shops that led to only minor offenses. In Neenah, Wisconsin a town that has a violent crime rate below the national average and a non-existent homicide since 2009 seems to be a new home for SWAT tactical police. Why? In a town less than 25,000 people and a town where you can leave the front door open without fear, so why are these militant type of factions standing guard over them. This is happening in small towns all across the nation.

Wel,l some methods of how crime is detected is under fire as well. Blue CRUSH( Crime Reduction Utilizing Statistical History) is a system use to reduce crime in Memphis,Tennessee by using data collected from cameras throughout the city and compiles and compares data against the maps of the area. Then, officers are assigned to the areas that show the most crime activity in a certain locality. The results have been exceedingly pleasing, murders and robberies both have gone down 36% and vehicle thefts have gone down 55%. In a town where police funding has been cut and splintered, this seems to be the most effective way to distribute officers when and where crime is auguring to be. So why then, if this program seems to be working has funding has been cut from 60 -70% from the 2011-2012 budget. One argument suggests that even, though the budget cuts took away the overtime from these officers the results still show strong numbers. In 2010 43,300 arrests were made, then the funding was reduced and 2011 47,411 arrests were made and the following year 47,700 arrests were made. This has not gone over well with the public as support for the program was fairly high and sweeping it out from under them did not go well.

While programs like Blue Crush seem to be ideal for the dispersion of the police it still doesn’t treat the heart of the police brutality totalitarian regimes that our government is producing and facilitating. Besides public awareness and the power of the video upload what can be done besides viral videos and new media coverage? While it informs the masses, it doesn’t seem to be too preventive or evenprovide protection since Eric Garner died on camera with no help or aid to stop police?

One idea suggested is to have a choice one which police department, we have access to. If you live in an area with several small towns you can call any one of them. If you live in a big city the idea is to break up the department into smaller groups. Other resolutions against police brutality consist of protests, video record them, vote against politicians who tolerate police brutality, work with intermediary groups who are combatants against brutality and legal action. Besides becoming one of the gun-toting vigilantes there really doesn’t seem an approachable solution that seems reasonable.

Until more is done in Washington, we are all potential victims. I’m not disillusioned about what life would be like without the police, nor am I trying to attack those police who are the majority that do their job and chose to face certain death in order to protect those who can’t protect themselves. The dauntlessness of the brave individuals who put on their badge have to face dangers everywhere they go and put themselves and their families at risk of retaliation. For that my gratitude is extended to you. There is no greater service to your country than to protect it and the populace in it. Life without ,police only leads to complete anarchy and the worst parts of Sharia Law enforced. I know this thread of society would unwind fast and completely become the pre Mad Max cataclysm that leads into the barren wastelands and pockets of lawless mutinous folks who govern themselves with little concern of life outside of their circle. My only question is are we heading down this path anyway?

For those of you who know me personally know I’m a sweet, gentle soul who could never possibly hurt anyone unprovoked. I got to work everyday, I love my wife and children and I follow the rules. I’m not out in the clubs or drinking uncontrollably to a drunken stooper. I do what I’m told, when I’m told to do it. To put it simply, I‘m a good little boy. Honestly though, this can be very boring for me. After watching a episode of the Starz network tv show Power I saw qualities in James “Ghost” St. Patrick I wanted to be like.

If you know the show, then you know that Ghost is a drug dealer slash club owner trying to go legit. In his world he has everything he wants in his grasp. A beautiful wife and kids, an affair with a hot girlfriend from his past. His physical appearance is very muscular and fit and he has tattoos on his back. I wanted tattoos on my back and I let myself go and haven’t been able to discipline myself back to working out again. It’s his desirability among women is a trait that I envy as well. I mean what guy doesn’t want women to want him, even if he doesn’t want them?

Other than the physical traits Ghost has a style and poise about him that shows he’s a patient thinking man. His right hand man Tommy often jumps way too cravingly into danger. Ghost shows his equanimity when he visits all angles of the issue and decides how to cautiously proceed. Characters like Ghost or even Shane from The Walking Dead  possessed the power to wield and command respect even among the biggest and toughest. The absence of fear they show in the depth of anarchy is a testament of how these men handle pressure and know how to navigate through the network negotiation and deception. Men like these are often connected to the underworld bosses and being a boss themselves, they too have people under them they employ and live double lives.

Men like Tony Soprano that I would argue is an anti-hero, but sees the world differently, because they know the people who are the puppetmasters and button presser of the world. They never saw themselves as consorting to a regular 9-5 nor would they want to become part of that transient mundane lifestyle that herds themselves on the highway five days a week to make it to a job they hate to come back home to a family who doesn’t listen to him half the time. In the life where you do what is necessary, some may see it as barbarous and others see it a way of life. The toll you pay for a the style of living you work for.

I can’t tell you how many times I felt like punching someone in the face, but I held back. The time this mechanic was gonna over charge me to fix a flat tire. I wanted to deck him right there and someone like a Tony Soprano or Ghost would have made a threatening gesture and if the guy didn’t comply he would hit him….repeatedly. I mean I see guys like me who get argued down by their spouses and wore down by life and the spark has left their souls. We’re just going through the motions of the week…..what day is Monday, oh ok I need my coffee, car keys and I’m out the door to go to work. To me the part of the American dream that isn’t mentioned in a brochure of guide-book is that we you have to relentlessly pursue your goal and take what you want when you want it.

It’s the Scarface’s, the Walter White’s, the 50 Cent’s, the Hannibal Lector’s, the Don Draper’s, the Ray Donovan’s, the Jamal Al-Fayeed’s take what they want and do as they please. Have you ever thought about being more like these guys?

A few years ago I had a conversation at works with some co-workers. We would often have discussions that felt like a forum when there was downtime at the job. Our topics would range from religion to reality tv and so on. One conversation in particular we talked about was the idea that human society as a whole is becoming more evil than we have in the past. The question became paradoxical when one person made the argument that society is just as evil as it has always been, but since the internet and the world became digital, we have been able to transport information in a split second. The world is becoming more diaphanous and reflects our greatest and worst qualities within us.

Do we have free will to choose good vs evil?

Human choice has been something debated by philosophers and scientists since the times of the ancient Egypt. Is the idea of freedom and free will an illusion. Nothing more than an ideological equalivalent to a visual hologram. Cosmological determinism which is an ideal that everything is predetermined and predicted makes the notion of free will improbable. Neuroscientists made a discovery that our brains make our decisions far before we are actually conscious of them. This term called “Bereitschaftpotential” which means readiness potential describes a subfield the brain goes into prior to conscious awareness.

Scientists Kornhuber and Deecke’s used EEG scans on research participants. They found that during a test where the subjects were asked to move their fingers. Prior to the voluntary movement the motor cortex showed a negative slow potential shift right before. Benjamin Libet also ran experiments in the 1980’s that further reaffirmed the findings from Kornhuber and Deecke. This time the participants would watch a clock with a dot circling around it. Data showed that .35 seconds before conscious awareness the readiness potential began. He concluded that as far as the initiation of our movements, there is no free will. This can be “vetoed” at the last-minute he also noted. He also believed that the anterior cingulate motor areas of the brain, which allows us to focus and execute self-initiated actions and self instigated movements.

Neuroscientists are now using fMRI and implanted electrodes to study this phenomenon. Participants were asked to go into an fMRI scanner and then press a button with their right or left index finger. They had to remember what letter appeared on the screen the moment they pressed the button. What they found was that the BP occurred one second prior to the conscious awareness and sometimes up to ten seconds before. “The first thought we had ‘we have to check if this is real.’ We came up with more sanity checks than I’ve ever seen in any other study before.” Another test actually used implants of electrodes into a person’s brain to record the activity of the individuals neutrons. He found that the neurons lit up 1.5 seconds prior to any conscious awareness. They used this to give a prediction of the person’s actions with 80% sometimes 90% accuracy. The conclusion became that the neuronal assemblies, cross a threshold and that the medial frontal cortex can determine these decisions before a person is even aware of it.

The Mind of a Killer

Mass shootings in this country have become problematic in our society. It seems that the more we find out about mental illness and the connection between the pestilence of these types of killings it has become more evident that evil is tangible in our way of life. In the last paragraph I talked about the absence of free will and the scientific analysis of the brain that pre-determines our actions. Could this in turn mean that out sociopaths/psychopaths are also commanded by some internal brain pattern.

In an article in Time magazine examining the minds of killers one investigator found that a man who killed 17 people and murdered and wounded 32 had a tumor and a vascular malformation pressing against his amygdala which is the region of the brain that controls emotion. A schoolteacher developed a sick compulsion for child pornography and began making advances towards his stepdaughter. He got arrested and then flunked out of a 12 step course, but when he went to the ER for a terrible headache and other neurological symptoms the doctors discovered an egg sized tumor on his right oribitofrontal cortex which controls decision-making. When the tumor was removed the urges stop, but the urges came back along with the re-growth of another tumor.

One experiment that was done on 96 male felons to study their impulse control and brain function. The test consisted of a fMRI scanner on them while they performed pressing a button when they saw the letter X,but had to refrain when they saw the letter K. The letter X was designed to appear over 84% of the time, which led to overclicking by the inmates who confused to the two letters. The anterior cingulate cortex(ACC) is the region of the brain that controls impulses. In turn that test found that those who did bad on the test had lower levels of ACC than those who scored higher. The correlation between the ones with lower ACC is that when the inmates were released back into society the ones with lower levels had been likely to be re-arrested four times more.

Another example of babies 6 monthsold born with a condition called cavum septum pellucidum which is a small gap in the forward left and right regions of the brain were more likely to develop behavioral disorders and exhibit criminal behavior. The question for us then becomes if someone is biological influenced to become a killer are they held accountable for the actions they committed. Dr Keihl’s who also studied prisoners in two high security facilities found that psychopath’s brains had low levels of density in the paralimbic system which is responsible for processing emotion. This connections results in impulsive personalities and show little evidence of feeling guilt, remorse of empathy.

A gene that has been studied seems to hold some answers whether evil is hereditary or not. The MAO-A (Warrior gene)gene seems to be the key to the question if evil within us and can it be passed down. A study done on Danish men found that identical twins when one had a criminal record the other twin had a 50% chance to have to also have a criminal record themselves. If there were non-identical twins they were 15-30% more likely to exhibit criminal behavior than an average Danish male. In the same scope children of criminal parents were more likely to become criminals even if the children were adopted and the foster parents were law biding citizens.

Can the Good turn Bad?

In the summer of 1971 there was an experiment where nine students volunteered for a two-week paid study program in Stanford County Prison. The students were blindfolded, stripped naked, sprayed with powder and given short smocks and flip-flops, hair was cut and they were given a number instead of a name. They were all tested and passed to be emotionally and physically competent. Dr. Zimbardo who was a psychologist played a warden in the prison. Twelve more volunteers were given uniforms and mirrored sunglasses and were given the task to enforce the prison rules. The inmates had to be quiet during meals and rest periods.

The guards tormented the inmates, waking them up at to recite numbers they had been assigned, playing naked leap frogging with other inmates. If inmates rebelled they were punished with push-ups and even solitary confinement. Some of the guards fell in line with these cruelties while other guards were clearly the aggressors and thought of more and more ways to torture the inmates. The prisoners themselves seemed the most complacent and obeyed their orders with little resistance.

The experiment was shut down after 6 days when the lines were too blurred for the “guards” to make moral and ethical decisions for themselves and seemed to be apart of a single ispeity. The prisons became violent and some became docile and accepting of their prisoner indicative role. Dr. Zimbardo’s experiment failed the ideal argument that good people can maintain their moral high-ground even in a virulent environment.  So my question now can good people given the wrong conditions turn themselves into immoral corrupted individuals.

Religion Explains the Rise of Evil

One explanation of the more and more accumulating evidence of evil is the argument that we are approaching the “Last Days.” In Christian culture describe the last days when the sinners of the earth will be judged. The rejection of word as one article puts it is the reason why the world is heading on a one way train to armageddon.

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator–who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. [Romans 1:24-32]

When I shall send upon them the evil arrows of famine, which shall be for their destruction, and which I will send to destroy you: and I will increase the famine upon you, and will break your staff of bread: So will I send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall bereave thee; and pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee. I the LORD have spoken it. –Exekiel 5:16-17

“And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. – Revelation 18:2

14-year-old Marcy Conrad of Milpitas, California, had been raped, strangled to death, and left lying off the road in the hills outside of town. According to the local paper, at least 13 students went out to look at her body. One girl picked up the murdered girl’s jeans, cut off a patch, and threw the jeans down along the side of the road. One student tried to cover the body with leaves. Another took his eight-year-old brother along to see the body. One boy went twice. Those who saw the body went back to class or to the pinball arcade. One went home to bed. Another student said he only cared about collecting the marijuana cigarette he had won on a bet that the body was real. As the newspaper reported: “The shock is the shock of the of the encounter with icy indifference, the indifference of the kids in the first instance, but much more importantly, of the culture that produced them… The depersonalization did not begin yesterday; it is not unique to this moment, yet it seems more complete – and they seem more alienated and isolated – than we have ever known before.

Public order has disappeared in “the new South Africa.” Crime is rampant. In Cape Town, a serious crime occurs every 17 seconds. Police have 1,227,047 unsolved cases under review, according to Crime Investigation Services divisional chief Johan le Rous. It is increasingly dangerous in South Africa to own a nice car since roving gangs of unemployed thugs surround nice cars at intersections, drag the driver and passengers out, beat them brutally, then drive off with the car – just for a wild “joy ride” in which the car is vandalized or wrecked.

“Since virtually all perverted behavior people engage in is now categorized under “natural behavior,” a door is now opened for more wicked sins. Just thirty years ago we would have been appalled, even outraged, by the decadence and debauchery that daily fills our streets, TV shows, movie screens, music and art, video games, businesses, and political bodies. But today we rarely give it a second thought. In fact, we often give it our approval, or a least fail to speak out against it. We have gotten used to it all, even though it is not a good thing to get used to. ”

“As a society, we have gotten used to illicit sexual relationships, adolescent promiscuity, abortion, cheating, lying, stealing, prostitution, rape, divorce, and even murder. We have gotten used to financial mismanagement on both civil and personal levels. We haveaccepted political corruption. We have rejected personal and social responsibility and learned to blame anyone or anything else for our problems and failures. We have traded in our infinitely valued divine image for a nickel-plated pagan shrine erected in honor of self-interest, immorality, and social apathy. The American ideal today is me first to do what I want, when I want, to whom I want, regardless of who or what it may hurt. These are the signs of a society gone wrong.”

I think the author nailed it one the head with this one. I really didn’t want to change any wording around. This isn’t the first time though Christians have cried out these are the last days and the sinners will pay for their wrongdoings in pestilence proportions. Truthfully was supposed to come by the turn of the century, then again Y2k was supposed to end everything as we know, then the Mayans prophecized Dec. 21, 2012 was the day the stars lined up and the Apocalypse was supposed to come down. I see the times are getting worse, but I have a hard time accepting this is biblical and we are heading for judgment. Just in case though a quick prayer………….Amen lol

child labor

I saw a report on the Jon Stewart “The Daily Show” about child workers on a Tobacco farm. As all interviews with the show it was humorous and raised the question why is this allowed to be in the US. It started me on a research project to find other industries if any that allow children under the legal age to work that do not have to abide by the child labor laws of this country. Here are some of the industries that I have found.

Family Businesses – If you work for you parents of other family members then you don’t have to obey the same laws for child labor. This can be harmful since working 20 hours a week for an underage minor may not apply to some places. Also family businesses don’t have to offer health care services like other businesses have to offer now. They don’t have to pay social security tax, federal unemployment tax, or medicare tax on the wages of its minor family members. The Fair Labor Standards Act also doesn’t mean anything to family businesses.

Other Occupations- The FLSA doesn’t apply for children who work in the entertainment industry such as performers in radio, television, and theater. Children under the age of 14 can work in this industry and also deliver newspapers, babysit or work at home.

Agriculture Farming In some state girls and boys as young as twelve years old can work in the industry of agriculture picking fruits and vegetables. I thought the days of having children working on the farm was over, but in some states like Hawaii children can pick a coffee as young as 10 years old. To add onto this 10 state and the Federal gov’t set no cap on the number of hours per day and per week children can work on the farm. They are also paid $4.25 an hour for the first 90 days of employment, but hand-harvesters of all ages are paid by the numbers of containers filled. Teens ages 15-17 working on farms were four times more likely to die on the job rather than teens who worked in other industries according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to the Missouri director of Labor Standards there used to be random inspections to make sure the laws were upheld. Now inspections only occur after a complaint is raised.

Tobacco Farming- Can an 11-year-old work in the US? In most places the answer is an obvious nobut in Snow Hill, North Carolina Jessica Rodriguez spent five summer six days a week working on a tobacco farm. “It was hard. It was definitely hard,” she remembers. “We had a good boss lady — she bought us lunch every day. But remember, you’re sitting there eating lunch with tobacco gum all over your hands.” They worked 12 hour days from 6am or 7am to 6pm and 7pm at night. They work under harsh conditions and when researchers interviewed 141 of the children between the ages of 7 through 17 and found that almost 75% of them reported symptoms such as vomiting, nauseaheadachedizziness, skin rashes and burning eyes. They also suffer from acute nicotine poisoning, green tobacco sickness or GTS. “About half the kids we interviewed said they saw tractors come through the fields where they were working, or nearby fields, spraying pesticides,” Wurth said. “And the children said they could smell and taste and feel the chemical spray as it drifted toward them.”

U.S. Labor laws, she says, do not protect these kids.

According to the report:

— Children as young as 12 can work unlimited hours on any size farm as long as they have a parent’s permission.

— Children of any age can work in any job on a farm owned by their parents.

— There is no minimum age for children to work on small farms.

— At 16, children working on farms can do jobs considered hazardous by the Department of Labor. Children working outside agriculture must be at least 18 to do hazardous work.

The Federal Youth Employment Laws in Farm Jobs, while setting standards for youth employment in agriculture, does not specifically address tobacco farms. But the Department of Labor released a statement addressing the Human Rights Watch report:

A 16-year-old worker harvests tobacco on a farm in Kentucky.
A 16-year-old worker harvests tobacco on a farm in Kentucky.

“Our job at the Department of Labor is to ensure that agricultural employers keep their workers, regardless of age, safe on the job, housed in safe and sanitary residential facilities, and pay them their legally-required wages,” the government agency said. “The Department especially takes seriously its role in ensuring that employers operate in compliance with all appropriate laws and rules with respect to young workers.”

“We’ve concluded that any tasks where kids come into direct contact with tobacco plants or dried tobacco leaves pose hazards to their health,” Wurth said. “We want companies to make clear that kids cannot work in jobs where they are exposed to these dangers and then to communicate this to the growers and their supply chains to make sure the growers know these rules and follow them.”

The Obama administration tried to make changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, but they were met with fierce opposition by ranchers, farmers and farm-state legislators. Under pressure they withdrew their proposals and promised not to bring them up again until after Obama’s second term.  Some congressmen like Lucille Roybal-Allard and other representatives want to reintroduce the CARE Act, which would prohibit children under 14 from working. It would also the age to 18 yrs old for legally working on a farm and ban 17 dangerous tasks from being performed. “For over a decade, we’ve been trying to spread the word that a 12-year-old can work unlimited hours as long as school is not in session, under harsh conditions in the fields — and nobody seems to care,”.

Human Rights Watch shared its report with 10 companies that buy tobacco grown in the United States.

“Nine of the 10 companies responded and all are concerned about child labor, but none of them have policies that specifically protect children from the hazards we identified in our research,” Wurth said.
