end of days

Some temptations are just to good to pass up. My curiosity got the best of me the other day and I gave in by watching one of those “End of the World” conspiracies videos. This time around the date is set for July 29, 2016. So in three days the biblical prophecies will come true and we will be swallowed up by hell fire while the others who are “saved” will rejoice in the heavens.

I’d have more faith if this wasn’t the sixth time I heard this scenario play out. No matter how many nut balls religious extreme evangelicals say its gonna happen doesn’t mean it will. In 2000 Y2K was supposed to bring on the end of all electronics thrusting us back before the industrial revolution. Nothing happened. Later the big worry was over 2012 and the Mayan calendar predictions that seemed to indicate the end of the world. Nothing happened.

Harold Camping and a few other preachers around the world have made their own predictions about the last day on earth before asteroids hit and volcanoes erupt, and earthquakes tremble. He made the accusations back in 2011, twice in the same year. Another one, Chris Mccann from Pennsylvania says Oct. 2015 was the deadline for our destruction.

With all this talk about ending the world. I ask myself why is the idea that not only our society will end so emphasized almost to the extent of endorsement by Christians and other religions. It’s almost as to say, “See I told you so!!!” This to me is no reason for celebration. There are verses in the Bible that state some will enter salvation, but no one knows who they are until the end starts happening. Sooo with that in mind is this something you really want to believe in and bring on?

Adam

My whole life it seems I’ve had this unconscious question that I’ve just within the last five years been able to verbalize. If the woman gives birth to children, then how come God made man first? The story of the Garden of Eden seems to me very misogynist and one-sided. The story is always told from the man’s point of view, that God made Eve from taking one of Adam’s rib. After that Eve brought evil on the world by eating the forbidden fruit. If you followed the story, it emphasizes a draconian master, servant relationship, where the woman has to know her place, make babies and feed her man. I know this type of talk coming from a man, I must be some feminist….right? I’m really interested in the possibility that religion and mankind got it all wrong. What if Adam was really the name of the woman and she was the first human to walk the earth. Booooooom!!!! my mind was blown just thinking about that. My next task is to gather my argument and I found a decent amount of research to back my claim.

First, we have to look at the Bible/Torah and see what it actually says. In a video one examination gives insight that God never made Eve from Adam’s rib, the first human was made with both a female and male half. This is important, because it goes along with the theme that everything in the universe consists of male/female energy. This has nothing to do with sexuality of male and female organs. On the contrary, In science even the left brain is said to be male and the right brain is said to be female. The male side is said to control logical thinking, analytics, aggression, impatience and other emotions. The female side is supposed to control patience, nurturing, calm, receptiveness and etc. It doesn’t take a genuis to see what side has taken over the in today’s society. That’s one reason why I believe woman should be noted as the first human and males were the ones to bring the species down.

I know so far this has been pretty blasphemous, but I’m not the only one who thinks I’m right. Dr. Joy Elasky Fleming a telecommunications consultant made a bold statement to falls in line with my first point. She stated during a lecture that Adam was the name for the man and woman and that the name Eve came later on down the line. “Turn in your Bibles to Genesis 5:2… At creation God called the name of the man and the woman Adam; if you said, Eve, she was given that name later by the man in Genesis 3:20, after he had sinned……….”  Dr. Fleming takes it a step further and even says, that the man was the one who cursed society as a whole, not the woman. “it says in the New Testament that the woman was deceived, and we saw that, God confirms that she was deceived…and so God curses because of the deliberate nature of the actions of the serpent and the man, but not on the woman, and um, that’s clear in the text.”  To add to her argument she quotes this passage. “…and He (God) says it to the woman, and He says it as an alert: Be careful, you have a desire for your husband as before, but he’s not the same man you used to know in Eden, where everything is harmonious, because he will attempt to rule over you. And that is what he proceeds to do, as soon as God leaves, in 3:20…he gives her a different name, and it’s his way of saying we’re not going to have the same name; we won’t be related, I’m separating myself from you. And um God had spoken of life and children to her; He had spoken of him (Adam) returning to the dust and death, and so he names her (Eve) the mother of all living, and he’s kind of the father of death. My husband thinks that he (Adam) was kind of upset at this point, and he was saying, ‘Well you’re the mother of all living, and I’m the father of all death.’”

According to her it’s the male species that endangers us all. This makes sense since, men tend to be more violent than women and the world control’s is usually in the hands of a man. Is it possible man went against God’s specific word and that’s why we’re such a violent, uncaring world right  now. Men were the ones who brought evil and destruction, not women. This will not be a popular point of view, but I’m sticking to my guns and will probably be the few that will.

If we look at this from a historical and scientific standpoint, ya’ll find my arguments make more sense. The oldest human bones were of a woman in Ethiopia, it’s not a coincidence that there was not a man around that time. The theory is that woman were once asexual, if you ask then that leads me to this discovery. Back in 2007, a discovery was made that shattered old conceptions that women needed men to reproduce. British scientist’s have found a way to turn a woman’s own bone marrow into sperm cells that can fertilize a female egg to have a child. With this discovery, it makes the argument that women won’t need a men in the near future for reproduction. Also another way a woman can reproduce asexually is monozygotic twinning is a type of asexual reproduction in which is the result of the separation of the blastomeres in various stages of development.

My last argument is far fetch, but some would say this whole blog page is too. There is a disease called Guevedoces in which is translated roughly into “penis at 12“. According to BBC magazine there was one example of when a child was born and raised as a girl around age 12 their testicles descended and grew a penis. This my seem strange to some, but if you read the above about women being able to make a baby from bone marrow then this doesn’t seem like a stretch.

Check out this article that further proves my point

I wouldn’t be New Age Of Truth if I didn’t myself subject my theories into the realm of the unexplained and less travelled. What I mean is there are ideas and phenomena that cannot be easily explained, such as the building of the pyramids with such precision, or the suggestion that the earth is itself a living being and the plants, animals and atmosphere create a harmonic planetary ecosystem. Today I want to explore some of these ideals with you.

Bible code

Torah and Bible are written in code– There are theories out there that suggests that the holy books of the Torah and the Bible are written in numerical code with the notions they contains secrets about metaphysics, consciousness and the fabric of our universe. One example is the word Sin is an abbreviation of a Sine Wave. If you look at a picture of an amplitude and wavelength it shows a straight and waves that go into and out of the straight line. According to the theory the straight represents linear time. The Sine Wave represents your individual life wave that crosses into time from birth and out of time at death. Sine=Sin, Cosine wave or Cosine=Cos is another wave length that also is supposed to represent space and the two wavelengths also cross into an out of each other. In the Christian bible sin is evil, because people are born into sin. The theory suggests that we are not born into sin as evil deed, but born into Sine which is connected to time. If your born into time, then this sets you way from GOD, because your life is not eternal because it is bound by the physics of time and space. The Bible also gives light to eternal life and the theory interjects and says you can have eternal life with GOD, by going beyond space and time. Hey, I never said you have to believe it, just follow me.

Books like the Bible Code by Michael Drosnin and Movies like The Omega Codes have popularized he idea that specific letters can be selected to reveal otherwise obscure messages. One example is if you take every 50th letter from the Book of Genesis starting with Taw, the Hebrew word Torah is spelled out. In fact, using this method and applying to The Book of Exodus, the word Torah appears a few thousand times. The question then leads to why?

Ley Lines

Ley Lines-In 1921 archaeologist Alfred Watkins discovered something that would change the way we think about our ancestors once again. What he found is a clear connection between the alignment of different places with geographical and historical significance, such as ancient monuments, megaliths, natural ridge-tops, and water fords. The idea is that tectonic plates below the earth crust have certain break points in them and within these breaks, there are energy releases with great spiritual and metaphysical significance.  Ancient Kings and Queens have been buried along these 25,000 miles long lines as well as landmarks such: Easter Island, The Pyramids of Giza, Paracas Drawing, Nazca Tracks, Ollantaytambo, Macho Picchu, Cuzco, Sacsayhuaman, Dogon lands, Tassili N’ Ajjer, Siwa Oasis, Petra, Ur, Persepolis, Mohenjo Daro, Khajuraho, Pyay, Sukhothai, Angkor Wat, Preah Vihear. Even though the energy along these lines cannot be measured by conventional science, psychics and New Agers have been known to sense these energies.

Golden Ratio

The Golden RatioThe Greek letter phi represents the golden ratio and its value of 1.618. The significance in the number is that it is also called the divine proportion and has been applied to every aspect of nature and space as one of the building blocks of life and science. Their relationships with the Golden Ratio in architecture, paintings, seashells, flowers, tornados, the milky way, skeletons of animals, veins in plants, geometry in crystals and even a pentagram. It is not sure why, but it a number that is repeated throughout the universe over and over again. This could be the basis to show our interconnection on a mathematical numerical level that can be calculated and proportioned. There are many skeptics, but the evidence points to a reality that is becoming more probable by the day. DNA is also an exemplification of the Golden Ratio and shows proof of the intelligent design of the universe and not made together by sure chance. 137.5 is another measurement that can be used in human cells.

Humans are Millions of Years Old– One misconception I remember being told as a kid is that human beings and dinosaurs co-existed at the same time. Scientists debunked this because they estimated dinosaurs to live hundred of millions if years ago and humans didn’t exist until hundred of thousands of years ago. There is a different theory that says human kind is for older than we’ve been led to believe. The oldest recording of human habitating earth goes back to almost 600 Million years ago. A footprint in Utah that was fossilized and appears to be a sandal.  A human skull was found in coal and as scientifically tested to be 280 million years old. The discovery was made back in 1981 by Ed Conrad of Shenandoah. Testing also revealed dried blood, protein and crystals of calcium oxalate dihydrate. This brings a caveat to the theory that dinosaurs and humans roamed the earth.

serial killers

Imagine this you wake up disoriented in a dark, damp, cold room not knowing how you got there and scared out of  your mind. You scream for help only to realize your in a reticent room for a reason. You suddenly get memories flushing back when someone suddenly came from behind you and drugged you second before you passed out. What was that…..You hear the door screech open and footsteps walking toward you coming closer, but the room is too dark to see who or what it is. With you heart pulsating it seems the air suddenly is thinning as you gasp for breath trying to remain calm, but you can’t help but shake and cry not knowing what will happen next.

I gonna stop there, because that scenario seems horrifying to live through with just the glimpse of what I made visual for you. So why are we so fascinated to watch these scenarios play out on tv? What makes tv shows like Criminal Minds which is in it’s tenth season, The Following, Hannibal, Bates Motel, Dexter and other shows where criminals, psychos and the deranged run amuck so intriguing to us.

  • Killers are Humanized– It’s hard to despise a psychopath when you watch a drama filled show and see their life unfolding in front of you. You might even become sympathetic to the characters who dismember and murder knowing they were abused or tortured as a child.
  • Killers are Glamorized– Our culture unfortunately romanticizes serial killers too much, the Ted Bundy’s, Charles Manson, Jack Abbott all have made last impressions on society for all the wrong reasons, yet even today anyone of these individuals have cult like followings that have immortalized them.
  • They put on the Charm– Suave, debonair, elegant, intelligent charismatic, cultured, meticulous and take charge. hardly the description you would think applies to a bloodthirsty, cold-blooded killer. The tv does such wonders for a killers ego huh? I just finished watching season 2 of The Following. Joe Carroll did a masterful job seducing a cult into his own meshwork agenda of anarchy and death that had his followers extol for him.
  • Bad is so so Good – In society rules and order are needed for the population to function. Sometimes though the decree and all the regulations can be overwhelming and create disorderly factions. Killers and those who appreciate them disobey the rules, are not understood by regular law biding citizens. This brings an element of “cool” and popularity and we’ve all heard the saying “Good girls like bad boys”.
  • Society has a hankering for blood– If you seen the movies like Gladiator, 300, Spartacus and other movies like them then society as a whole has a long history of turning someone else’s death and dismemberment into entertainment. Much like what the Romans did for “fun”, we get the same thrill from seeing the blood splatter on the walls and watching the arms getting torn off. It’s greatright?
  • Killing can be Sacerdotal – Even religion sanctioned killing in so way, shape or form. Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT-…….”you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.  Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it.”  “ A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death.”  Leviticus 20:27 NAB
  • Television adrenaline junkies – Long gone are the days the Alfred Hitchcock style killings where you see knife about to stab an unsuspecting woman in the shower and see the silhouette of her body being bludgeoned to death. In the constant need to exceed audience expectations of shocking cinema, it’s not enough to imagine the murder viewers wants to see the fear in the victims eyes, the blade as it lacerated that innocent woman, the sense of melancholy as a grieving loved one sees their family member lying still for the last time.

I just gave a few reasons why watching death on tv and movies has become such a big part of our entertainment in our day-to-day lives. I can’t help but think that we are becoming more and more desensitized to killing and brutality in this country. If you seen movies like The Purge and The Hunger Games and look past the prismatic outfits and the face masks of terror you can see our society heading towards these dark unfathomable futures. The question is and always has been is life intimidating art or is art intimidating life?

Religious symbols

I want to warn you before you read this blog I am writing currently. I WILL BE TALKING ABOUT RELIGION and questionable controversial text in the Bible, Torah, and the Quran. If you don’t read this with an open mind and an inkling of curiosity you may be offended. This blog is a way to fuel my curiosity and show my findings for someone who is also curious. I will be respectful in the right that anything read in these passages and texts does not take away the significance, power and sheer awesomeness of these religious tomes.

Christianity

Adam and Eve -“In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”In this passage Adam is both male and female. In Hebrew Adam means “man” as in humans not a singular male person. The word Adam was derived from the Hebrew word אדם meaning “to be red” referring to the ruddy colour of human skin. Eve in Hebrew was derived from חוה(chawah) which means “to breathe” or חיה (chayah) which means “to live”. So this passage could very well be talking about making the human race not one man and woman.

Another piece of this story that has been up for debate is Adam and Eve is not the story of creation for mankind in the physical world, but rather the creation of humans in spirit. According to orthodoxcatholicnew.com the story of Adam and Eve is an allegory meaning that it has a message, usually a whole string of truths one leading to another which is somewhat a theme in Genesis. The Garden eastward in “Eden” is usually identified with  paradise which is described as a spiritual realm(2 Cor. 12. 2 – 4). The site uses Genesis 2 and 3 to make their point that Adam was in a spiritual state before entering Earth-life. This concept was not widely accepted until around the time of Alexander the Great. In some Pagan writings there are references made for this new intellection.

Christ and the original Apostles, who loathed the idea of the Hellenization of Jewish thought. This was a foreign idea incongruous to what they were being taught. Origen the great Christian scholar of the 3rd century wrote this about the subject:”Who would be so childish as to think that God was like a human gardener and planted a paradise in Eden facing the east, and in it made a real visible tree, so that one could acquire life by eating its fruit with real teeth or, again, could participate in good and evil by eating what he took from the other tree? And if the text says that God walked in the garden in the evening, or Adam hid himself under the tree, I cannot think that anyone would dispute that these things are said in the figurative sense, in an effort to reveal certain mysteries by means of an apparent historical tale and not by something that actually took place. . . . . ” (First Principles – 4: 16 by Origen of Alexandria)

Genesis 2:4 sums up the physical creation with “These are the generations of the heavens and earth…..” “generations” in Hebrew translates to “Toledath” which means “the origins of”. The interpretation is “this is the book of origins of the heavens and earth…” This information refers back to all the preceding chapters before it.

Islam

Different Verses in the Qur’an

1. Punishment for stealing As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. It is the reward of their own deeds, an exemplary punishment from Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise.” Qur’an-5:38- (5:39) But if the thief has repented and returned all the stolen goods and has mended himself, then truly Allah turns to him in forgiveness; surely Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. –

According to a (astudyofthequran.org) article says that the issue of cutting off a thief’s hand would not come up at all. In a truly Islamic state there would be social justice and the state would act as a trustee for the people. In the Qur’an, hunger, injustice and poverty would be eliminated and wealth would be used for the prosperity of the people not one single interest.

2. Does the Qur’an sanction the beating of women? (4:34) […]as for those women on whose part ye fear rebellion (nushuz), admonish them and banish them to beds apart, (and last) beat (adriboo) them. Then, if they obey you, seek not a way against them. (4:35) And if ye fear a breach between them twain (the man and the wife), appoint an arbiter from his folk and an arbiter from her folk. If they desire amendment Allah will make them of one mind. Lo! Allah is ever Knower, Aware.

Below are passages that give the true understanding of the role of women and their importance.

(2:228) […]the rights of the wives (with regard to their husbands) are equal to their (husbands’) rights with regard to them, although men have a degree (of advantage) over them. Allah is Almighty, Wise.

Physical strength is given to the man for the role he plays as a dominant role as a maintainer and as a counter measure the woman is given economic dependence in the sense that the woman’s earnings are entirely her own. The earnings are not to be mixed with the family’s earnings.

(33:35) Lo! Men who surrender unto Allah, and women who surrender, and men who believe and women who believe, and men who obey and women who obey, and men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth, and men who persevere (in righteousness) and women who persevere, and men who are humble and women who are humble, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their modesty and women who guard (their modesty), and men who remember Allah much and women who remember — Allah hath prepared for them forgiveness and a reward.

3. Polygamy in Islam

(4:2,3) Give unto orphans their wealth, exchange not the good for the bad (in your management thereof) nor absorb their wealth. Lo! That would be a great sin. And if ye fear that ye will not deal fairly by the orphans, marry of the women who seem good to you, two or three or four; and if ye fear that ye cannot do justice (to so many) then one (only) or (the captives) that your right hand possess. Thus it is more likely that ye will not do injustice.

The position of the Qur’an in this passage is that you must be able to with just equality, meaning you must be able to provide, financially, emotionally and equally to each new wife you were to marry, that goes for caring and fathering of the children.(4: 129) Ye will not be able to deal equally between (your) wives, however much ye wish (to do so). But turn not altogether away (from one), leaving her in suspense. If ye do good and keep from evil, lo! Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.

There is an argument that suggests both Europe and America has supported polygamy, but  not legalized it in the way Muslim husbands are bound legally to take care of all of his families. If you see the families in Centennial Park that have been featured on Polygamy USA by National Geographic. The families defend their lifestyle choices.

What the Torah says about says about homosexuality?

Shelly a blogger for Temple Beth Am Tikkan Olam questions the Torah’s teachings and asks if the teachings are being taken too literal. For example they write:Leviticus Chapter 18, Verse 22: which states that “A man should not lie with a man as one lies with a woman, it is to’ebah.” The word “to’ebah” translates to mean “an offensive thing,” not “abomination” as I believe conservatives have mis-translated it. One main argument questioning this passage is why does it only condemn male on male homosexuality and not a woman with a woman?

The second point made in the article is the word” to’ebah” means an offensive thing NOT A SIN. In the entire Torah the word to’ebah is not used to define acts that are forbidden in the scriptures. Whether homosexuality is right or wrong is not questioned in the Torah. One point the author makes is that as long as the homosexual acts are not a mimicking of heterosexual procedure which would be taken offensively, then the Torah accepts homosexuality as a special relationship.

Opposition to Deuteronomy 33-34

So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-Peor; but no man knows his grave till this day. And Moses was 120 years old when he died; his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. And the people of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; and the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended. And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him; and the people of Israel listened to him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses. And there has not arisen since in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. In all the signs and the wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land. And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great and awesome deeds which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel. (Deut. 34:5 to 34:12)

According to aish.com the last eight verses pose challenges that the Torah was dictated by God to Moses. The Master has said: “Joshua wrote the book which bears his name and the last eight verses of the Pentateuch. This statement is in agreement with the authority who says that eight verses in the Torah were written by Joshua, as it has been taught: So Moses the servant of the Lord died there. Now is it possible that Moses being dead could have written the words, ‘Moses died there’? The truth is, however, that up to this point Moses wrote, from this point Joshua wrote. This is the opinion of Rabbi Judah, or, according to others, of Rabbi Nehemiah.” [But] Rabbi Shimon said to him: “Can the scroll of the law be short of one word? … No; what we must say is that up to this point the Holy One, blessed be He, dictated and Moses repeated and wrote, and from this point God dictated and Moses wrote with tears.” (Baba Bathra 15a)  – The question here is was Moses or Joshua the spiritual channel for the word of God?

There are eight verses that give challenge to the way to think about who god was speaking to and who wrote the Torah. The website aish.com digs deeper into this mystery that contradicts that Moses wrote the Torah.

As always let me know what you think and give any commentary you may have.

Bronze Age

Archaeologists have unearthed traces of a previously unknown, 14th-century Canaanite city buried underneath the ruins of another city in Israel.

The traces include an Egyptian amulet of Amenhotep III and several pottery vessels from the Late Bronze Age unearthed at the site of Gezer, an ancient Canaanite city.

Gezer was once a major center that sat at the crossroads of trade routes between Asia and Africa, said Steven Ortiz, a co-director of the site’s excavations and a biblical scholar at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

The remains of the ancient city suggest the site was used for even longer than previously known. [The Holy Land: 7 Amazing Archaeological Finds]

Biblical city

The ancient city of Gezer has been an important site since the Bronze Age, because it sat along the Way of the Sea, or the Via Maris, an ancient trade route that connected Egypt, Syria, Anatolia and Mesopotamia.

Ancient City Discovered Beneath Biblical-Era Ruins …

A scarab amulet from Amenhotep III was found in the ruins of Gezer.

The city was ruled over many centuries by Canaanites, Egyptians and Assyrians, and Biblical accounts from roughly the 10th century describe an Egyptian pharaoh giving the city to King Solomon as a wedding gift after marrying his daughter.

“It’s always changed hands throughout history,” Ortiz told LiveScience.

The site has been excavated for a century, and most of the excavations so far date to the the 10th through eighth centuries B.C. Gezer also holds some of the largest underground water tunnels of antiquity, which were likely used to keep the water supply safe during sieges.

But earlier this summer, Ortiz and his colleague Samuel Wolff of the Israel Antiquities Authority noticed traces of an even more ancient city from centuries before King Solomon’s time. Among the layers was a section that dated to about the 14th century B.C., containing a scarab, or beetle, amulet from King Amenhotep III, the grandfather of King Tut. They also found shards of Philistine pottery.

During that period, the ancient site was probably a Canaanite city that was under Egyptian influence.

The findings are consistent with what scholars suspected of the site, said Andrew Vaughn, a biblical scholar and executive director of the American Schools of Oriental Research, who was not involved in the study.

“It’s not surprising that a city that was of importance in the biblical kingdoms of Israel and Judah would have an older history and would have played an important political and military role prior to that time,” Vaughn told LiveScience. “If you didn’t control Gezer, you didn’t control the east-west trade route.”

But once the location of that major road moved during the Roman period, the city waned in importance. It was later conquered and destroyed, but never fully rebuilt.

“Just like today when you have a ghost town — where you move the train and that city goes out of use,” Ortiz said.

The Blaze

By Billy Hallowell5 hours ago

On Oct. 19, self-professed Biblical scholar Joseph Atwill is planning to make public some very flammable allegations. At a day-long symposium called “Covert Messiah” in London, England, he’s set to unveil purported evidence that Roman aristocrats manufactured Jesus Christ – a claim that, if substantiated, would devalue the core of the Christian faith.

The only problem? Most Biblical experts disagree with the scholar’s pronouncements.

press release announcing the purported new evidence claims that Atwill has discovered “ancient confessions” that purportedly prove that Romans invented Jesus Christ in the first century. He has long argued that the faith system was used as a political tool to control the masses — something he says is still going on today.

“I present my work with some ambivalence, as I do not want to directly cause Christians any harm, but this is important for our culture,” he said of the alleged debunk – one that he believes will eventually be universally accepted.

In the release, Atwill said that governments often create “false histories and false gods” and that this is often done in an effort to secure social order.

Rather than a theology, Atwill believes that Christianity was concocted as a government project that was used to control Roman citizens. During a time in which Jewish residents were waiting for their Messiah, he says they were a constant source of insurrection, leading the Romans to seek out an equalizing and tempering force.

“When the Romans had exhausted conventional means of quashing rebellion, they switched to psychological warfare,” Atwill explains in the press release. “They surmised that the way to stop the spread of zealous Jewish missionary activity was to create a competing belief system.”

And that’s when Jesus was allegedly created – a man who advocated peace rather than violence. Atwill contends that the Christ that billions embrace never actually existed and that he is a “fictional character.”

He bases his theory on a study of “Wars of the Jews,” a book by Josephus, a scholar who provided insight and documentation first-century Judea. The historian contends that the prophesies of Jesus line up with Josephus’ writings about the Jewish-Roman war and are, thus, proof that “the biography of Jesus is actually constructed, tip to stern, on prior stories, but especially on the biography of a Roman Caesar.”

“Is this the beginning of the end of Christianity?” the press release cryptically asks.

While Atwill doesn’t think it is, he did say that the purported discovery will give those who are looking to leave the Christian faith the perfect motivation to do so. He maintains that his evidence shows exactly where Jesus’ story came from.

“Although Christianity can be a comfort to some, it can also be very damaging and repressive, an insidious form of mind control that has led to blind acceptance of serfdom, poverty, and war throughout history,” he said. “To this day, especially in the United States, it is used to create support for war in the Middle East.”

Patheos blogger James R. McGrath, though, doubts that the symposium will be groundbreaking. Of Atwill’s claim to be a Biblical scholar he wrote, “there is no evidence that he has relevant qualifications or research to his name.”

Atwill’s biography claims that, while he went to school for computer science, he has spent years studying the origins of Christianity.

Professor James Crossley from the University of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England, agreed with Atwill’s critics, telling The Daily Mail that theories like Atwill’s are not accepted among academics.

“These types of theories are very common outside the academic world and are usually reserved for sensationalist literature,” he said. “They are virtually non-existent in the academic world.”

Atwill’s views are no surprise. Online articles and a book he wrote in 2005 entitled, “Caesar’s Messiah: The Roman Conspiracy to Invent Jesus,” all include similar themes. His view that Jesus was manufactured is well-documented. Most mainstream Bible scholars, though, don’t seem to be buying into it.
